Operation Iron Spill – August 23, 2025

An exercise for Marion County EmComm Operators and our Community

Another busy day in Marion County. As usual, CSX is operating their trains down the S-Line towards the Port of Tampa. As Florida weather does, a recent microburst over the southeastern part of the county has strewn leaves and other plant debris across the tracks. Wet leaves along with pressure releases pectin, which causes slippage on train wheels. Our CSX engineer tried to slow down as he made the turn just after Belleview, but had a bit of difficulty with traction. This difficulty caused some torquing forces on his train, and he had a partial derailment.

Our mission:
To rapidly deploy communicators to safe-area shelters to handle evacuees.
To rapidly deploy communicators to safe-area hospitals to provide comms.
To rapidly deploy communicators to special points of distribution to assist evacuees who are receiving goods and services.

We will be simulating an EOC environment for this exercise.

Sign up today for this special training opportunity. This training will take place on Saturday, August 23rd at Green Clover Hall, located in the MacPherson Governmental Complex, All Marion County EmComm members are strongly encouraged to attend, and any licensed or interested amateur radio operators are invited to drop in and learn what we do!
